What is Saluki Country?

We are located in Carbondale, Illinois, the capital of southern Illinois and home to Southern Illinois University, whose mascot is the saluki. Our region of Illinois is referred to as “Little Egypt” and the Saluki was chosen as the mascot because it is an Egyptian hunting dog.
